In France the tiara was worn by Napoleon to asset his absolute power, just as the Caesars of ancient Rome had done. In time, the tiara became associated with coronations, and the eighteenth-century bride would wear a tiara over her veil. The tiara was most often made from gemstones from the family vault, but jewelers began to fashion intricately carved designs from the finest gold and silver.
