Alencon Lace was created in France during the rule of Louis XIV. The French government encouraged the best lace makers from Belgium and Italy to develop schools in the lace-making areas of Alencon, Arras and Sedan. At first, the lace produced was identical to the Italian made laces but soon a new lace was being produced. This new, much softer lace, was luxurious, ornate, and with many more filling stitches. The beauty of Alencon Lace has moved musicians, artists, designers and romantics alike. The exquisiteness of Alencon Lace inspired this delicate and splendid hair adornment.
