Legends tell that she died of a broken heart when she learned that her beloved Sir Lancelot, had fallen in love with Queen Guinevere. King Arthur had her body sent by boat to Camelot, where the lords and ladies, including the fickle Sir Lancelot, remarked that she was breathtaking even in death.

Before she was immortalized in Arthurian legend, and centuries before she inspired the poet Tennyson, and the artist Waterhouse, she was believed to have been an ancient Celtic goddess of the moon.
