LADY OF SHALLOT · $149.00

Her tragic but romantic story of love lost made the Lady of Shallot a favorite subject for artists and poets alike through the centuries. Legends tell that she died of a broken heart when she learned that her beloved Sir Lancelot, had fallen in love with Queen Guinevere. King Arthur had her body sent by boat to Camelot, where the lords and ladies, including the fickle Sir Lancelot, remarked that she was breathtaking even in death.

Before she was immortalized in Arthurian legend, and centuries before she inspired the poet Tennyson, and the artist Waterhouse, she was believed to have been an ancient Celtic goddess of the moon. It's easy to imagine this ethereal and beautiful figure bedecked in jewels and flowers. The Lady of Shallot headband, with its entwined stems and vines and its lovingly detailed naturalistic foliage is beautiful enough to grace the locks of a goddess or a romantic heroine. Each flower and leaf is accented with fiery Austrian crystals, and luminous faux pearls along with dainty pearl buds that are scattered throughout. The design measures a generous 11 inches of the 13-inch band. The antique gold color makes this beauty an automatic heirloom. Please see our galleries for this tiara in silver-tone (M157).
