The Hanging Gardens
It was surely a wondrous sight, this lush mountainous oasis that sprang out of the flat and dry desert of Babylon. Ancient travelers must have thought they'd run off course, and somehow ended up in the marsh lands of Medes to the north! There was every kind of tree and plant here. Cypress, willow, pear, date, palm and more sprouted from the bases of the eighty feet of terraces. Grapes and flowering vines draped along the walls. The gardens were kept moist and green by an ingenious system of pulleys and buckets that drew water from the Euphrates river. What could have possessed the great Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar to build such a monolithic tribute to the landscape of another kingdom? Legends say it was for love. Nebuchadnezzar had married Amytis, the daughter of the King of Medes. It was supposed to be a political marriage, to unite the two rival kingdoms, but the Babylonian King fell deeply in love with the beautiful Median princess. He built the magnificent Hanging Gardens for her because she was homesick for the rich, green flora of her homeland. What a lucky lady Amytis must have been, to have one of the seven wonders of the ancient world as her personal garden! |

This lovely floral headband style tiara could almost be an artifact from an ancient treasure trove. The unique design combines modern styling with a vintage feel. Clusters of tiny blossoms and buds are hand-wired onto the band. Each delicate, white enamel flower is set with a sparkling Austrian crystal and accented by sweet buds of crystal beads and satiny, faux white pearls. The elegant, floral vine design is approximately 1 inch wide, and spans 9 inches. The 12 1/2 inch band is wavy, for the look of a real floral wreath. Your hairdresser will love the flexibility of this piece, as well as the strong and convenient pin loops at the ends. White enamel flowers and pearls make this exquisite hair piece most flattering with white to off-white gowns.
