Gold Tiara
Barbara Allan
The melody is bittersweet, and it has resonated in voices from the ancient countryside of the British Isles, to the Appalachian Mountains of North America. The lyrics tell a cautionary tale of unrequited love. The moral; don't begrudge true love when it is offered to you. According to the story, Barbara Allan was a beautiful young maiden, but she was also very haughty. A handsome and gentle young man from her village fell in love with her, but when he expressed his feelings to her she refused him. He became very despondent. He refused food and wouldn't sleep until he could have Barbara Allan as his own. His family came to her and begged her to reconsider, but she told them no. The young man was pining away for her, literally dying of a broken heart. On his death bed he called out to Barbara Allan. Again his family came to her, and pleaded for her to have mercy on the sweet young man, but she gave them an icy "No." The young man died, never having his hearts desire. It was only upon his death that Barbara Allan realized she'd made a terrible mistake. She really had loved the young man, but had been too proud and haughty to admit it and now she would never have him. Upon realizing this, she herself began to pine away, and just like the young man, she too died of a broken heart. The villagers buried Barbara Allan next to the young man. From his grave a beautiful floral vine began to grow. But from the grave of the cold-hearted Barbara Allan a thorny bramble grew. The two plants grew quickly and soon they became entwined. At last, in death, the two lovers were together.

Your own love story will have a much happier ending, especially when he sees you in this stunning tiara. The artistic design could just as easily be a beautiful accident of nature, or the first prize arrangement in a flower show. Naturalistic gold flowers, kissed by a soft, satin enamel, are scattered throughout the design. Each flower is accented by an amber colored, Austrian crystal set in the centers. Leaves, formed of brilliant clear, pear shaped crystals make for a striking contrast to the gold blooms. These gorgeous elements combine for an exquisite effect upon an open, woven, gold wire background. The total design spans a generous 10 inches of the 12 inch band, and is approximately 1 1/2 inches wide. The flexibility of this lovely piece makes it easy to shape and work with and pin loops make it easy to secure. This tiara can be worn with all colors of ensembles. It will reflect the warmth of ivory as well as it strikingly compliments and contrasts with white.
The bride is wearing jewelry and a veil which are not included. Be sure to check the other galleries for
